WEEKEND GETAWAY AT WATERSTONE RESORT AND MARINA

Last weekend Jonathan and I had a much needed kid free getaway at Waterstone Resort and Marina in Boca Raton, FL. I have lived in Florida all of my adult life and somehow this is the first time I have stayed in Boca. Most people think of Miami or Fort Lauderdale when the think of South Florida but Boca’s beaches are just as beautiful (even more beautiful in my opinion) and WAY less crowded. I was honestly amazed at how well they are maintained. We had a tripod set up taking photos for a solid 10 minutes on the boardwalk at Red Reef Park and not a single person walked by! The water was crystal clear and it’s a great beach for snorkeling. There are lifeguards on duty, a nice long shaded boardwalk, picnic areas, bathrooms and showers, and a playground for the kids. We paid $3 to park across the street where the parking lot was lined with beautiful sea life murals and I couldn’t resist taking a photo. We were there mid day on a Sunday and we were still able to find parking without a problem. Red Reef Park is only a few minutes from Waterstone Resort and Marina and there are quite a few other beaches that are even closer like South Inlet Beach and equally as beautiful. The resort also has a shuttle service that will take you anywhere within a 3 mile radius, including the beach, plus they have beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas available that are included with your stay. If you would rather get some exercise and take in the scenery, two bike rentals for two hours per day are also included. Fall and winter in Boca is perfect bike riding weather since it’s usually in the low 80s with a light breeze and not as hot as it is in the summer.

Just one of the beautiful Murals in the parking lot near Red Reef Park

We didn’t arrive at Waterstone until late Friday evening since we had to drop the boys off at their grandparent’s house after school. We were so happy with our room and the beautiful view and the yummy macarons that disappeared pretty quickly. I was checking the weather all week and everything looked great until late Friday evening when it started to pour and the wind was over 20 mph (it totally came out of nowhere) and that continued all day Saturday! Not exactly the weather we were hoping for since we had plans to go out on the jet skis and paddleboards on Saturday. The resort had so many fun water activities paddleboards, jet skis, kayaks, and you can even go out on a three-hour catamaran cruise! They also have boat rentals and you can book a fishing charter or snorkeling or scuba trip. Or if you would rather relax by the waterfront pool you can rent a six-person cabana with TV, fan, and fridge.  Definitely my kind of resort! I can’t wait to go back when the weather is better to do some of the fun water activities that we had to miss out on this trip.

Unfortunately due to the weather, this was a close as we could get to jet skiing this trip.

Since Saturday was a rainy day we decided to do some shopping at Mizner Park and Boca Town Center. Boca definitely doesn’t have a shortage of good shopping! The Town Center mall has upscale stores like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Tory Burch but also has budget friendly options like Forever 21 and Abercrombie & Fitch and of course major department stores like Nordstrom. Mizner Park is a little smaller but really pretty to walk around with some great restaurants.

Saturday evening we had dinner at Waterstone at one of the hotel’s restaurants, Boca Landing. Let me start by saying that 99% of restaurants we go to we usually leave saying we would’ve rather had McDonald’s. We are really not that picky (obviously since we would rather have McDonald’s. Haha) but most restaurants I guess just don’t live up to the hype or our expectations. This was definitely NOT the case at Boca Landing! I ordered the Pistachio Crusted Mahi and Jonathan got the Barrel Cut Filet Mignon and they were both AMAZING! I rarely go on and on about a restaurant but neither of us could stop talking about how good it was. One of the best meals and restaurant experiences I have had in a LONG time! Not only was the food amazing but the service was too! Whether you are a Boca local or you are staying at Waterstone on vacation you MUST check out this restaurant! It definitely made up for our rainy Saturday. We also got the breakfast buffet at Boca Landing on Sunday morning and it was amazing too! You know how much I love my breakfast buffets. Haha.

If you are thinking of planning a trip to anywhere in South Florida I highly recommend Waterstone Resort and Marina in Boca Raton. It’s close to so many beautiful beaches and you can do just about any water sport imaginable not to mention the amazing food and service which is so hard to find at a hotel these days (or at least I think so). Definitely a five star experience and you don’t have to fight the crowds like in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

*Thank you Waterstone Resort and Marina for hosting us. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
